Streets of London

For the past week, our gallery was filled with memories and moments of London, as captured and imagined by a group of 6 artists. Curated by a Broadworks resident artist, Sally Li, the vibrant exhibition showcased a variety of media, including photography, illustration and textiles.

Sally Li (curator):

“'Streets of London' brings together the works of 6 artists, all of which share a close connection to their hometown, London. I carefully chose these artists not only to celebrate their artistic talent but also as a response to the personal affiliation I felt with each of their selected pieces.

The exhibition invites you to discover the beauty and complexity of the iconic cityscape and the individuals who live within it through a captivating display of photography, textiles, painting and illustrations.

Each artist has reflected on their relationship to their hometown, with particular focus on themes of social justice and urbanisation - as you journey through the exhibition, the works hope to provoke your own connection with home. Discover how the vibrant streets, traditional celebrations and diverse communities come together to define what it means to be a Londoner.”

The exhibition featured the following artists:

Nico Froehlich - photographer

Emem Usanga - textile artist

Ryan Macdonald - photographer

Kai Campbell - photographer

Lisa Ha - illustrator and designer

Lauren Green - textile artist

Sally summed up her first experience curating a group exhibition as surreal.

“I am super grateful for all the support and gestures of kindness that I have witnessed throughout the past 2 weeks. The encouragement, visitors and engagement with the artwork have made this a successful exhibition. Art is nothing without community!”

We couldn’t agree more and are excited to continue supporting and collaborating with young artists.

The gallery is now preparing for a fashion pop-up show before it dives into the colourful art of Dawn Beckles in April.
