Unwind in the City - Wednesday Kids’ Art Club
Upcycled shoes workshop with Hernan Guardamagna
Join footwear designer and maker Hernan Guardamagna in this playful workshop to design and ‘build’ different types of shoes utilising recycled found materials. Participants will be challenged to create artwork in the shape of shoes using diverse materials such as cardboard, plastics, food packaging, fabrics and anything interesting found in a recycling bin. Hernan will also create ‘overshoes' accessories’ made of canvas and elastic fastening. These ‘overshoes’ could be used as a base to create your shoe design, or customised and worn over their existing shoes. Hernan will share some inspiring shoe artwork as the kickstart to brainstorming and he will support participants with construction methods.
If you feel tempted by the idea of recreating your favourite sneaker or shoe with found materials, bring it to the workshop! It would be helpful to use it as a reference and copy its shape and proportions.
Hernan Guardamagna is a fashion and footwear designer and maker. Recently, he has delved into the art world as an Artist Educator, sharing his passion for arts and design. Hernan founded his eponymous footwear brand, which focuses on modern shoes defined by bold silhouettes, geometric shapes, and elements of craftsmanship and futurism. Recycling and upcycling are two strong pillars of Hernan Guardamagna’s work; thus, many of the workshops he runs centre around customization, repurposing, or using waste to make art.
This workshop is free to attend but please book your spot to ensure there are enough materials for everyone.
