Broadworks receives a high commendation at the NLA Awards
Broadworks was highly commended in the Meanwhile category at the New London Awards 2024. The New London Awards, supported by the Mayor of London, recognises the best innovative projects in every industry that enhances their local communities.
In collaboration with Landsec group, and Eastern City BID, Hive Curates developed a multi-use, sustainably designed, creative space at 56a and 57 Old Broad Street. Broadworks illustrates how partnerships can transform urban settings and stands strong as a unique, creative hub in the Eastern City of London.
The meanwhile space was designed by architect Andrew Tam, who together with Hive Curates transformed three floors of disused space using reusable modular studio walls into a hub that supports a range of creatives. The space allows artists from a variety of disciplines to develop their careers, through offering affordable studios, a gallery and shop to sell their work. Broadworks is also home to a friendly coffee shop, event spaces, co-working space and a fantastic schedule of free and low-cost community events.
Broadworks’ visual branding is a response to the ever-evolving creative ecosystem that thrives within this space. Visually, Broadworks is demarcated into different zones taking a visitor on a chromatic and graphic journey; painted staircases and vibrant shapes come together to form the core identity of the space. The facade is a playful, full scale colour takeover, creating individuality from other neighbouring utilitarian environments.
Hive Curates and Broadworks have enhanced visibility for creatives by organizing events in partnership with more than 128 individuals and organisations including Eastern City BID, Landsec, UAL MA Biodesign, DJ’s for Climate Action, Spring Cafe, The Creatives, Black and White Gallery, Nosakhari, and OFFCUT.
Collaborations with local organisations and individuals have enriched Broadworks spaces with cultural events and interactive workshops linked to global and local happenings such as London Fashion Week, Earth Night, Black History Month, and Climate Action Week. Hive Curates and Broadworks excel in new perspectives and cultivate an inclusive atmosphere that enhances a feeling of community, energy, and diversity within the Eastern City.
