One of Those Days

£3,500.00

2021

Acrylic with charcoal on canvas

92 x 155 cm

One of those days where you feel like you're losing ground because of how uncertain life is. This piece is a self-portrait of myself from when I had recently relocated to a new environment. During the epidemic, I spent every day sitting by that window and staring outside, dreaming of the life I wanted not knowing what to expect. I had my highs and lows on those days hence both balloons with different expressions.

ARTIST BIO

Maureen Uzoh (b. 1997) is a figurative visual artist from Nigeria. She has a bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Delta State University, Nigeria and a master’s degree in International Relations from the University of Portsmouth, UK.

Uzoh’s passion for art started at a young age, and has always pushed her to learn and grow as an artist. She did not have the opportunity to get a formal education in art, so she began practicing, watching videos online, and sourcing for informal materials. With many influences like Toyin Ojih Odutola, Lisa Brice, and Kehinde Wiley, she has built a career as an artist, and created works that boldly express her thoughts and realities.

Maureen is a part of the Title Deeds collective nurtured by Ken Nwadiogbu and curated by Azu Nwagbogu. She’s exhibited in a number of galleries including African Artist Foundation (‘Re-Mediation’, Lagos, Nigeria) and Nimbus gallery (‘iDesign Art’, Lagos, Nigeria). Her latest series, ‘The Red Room’, is a representation of her experiences while living and creating art in London.
