Something Called Hope
Date 2022
Hope is a powerful and transformative force that resides within the human spirit. It is the beacon of light that guides us through difficult times, reminding us to maintain faith in a better future. The vibrant yellow petals of the sunflower serves as an inspiring reminder that even in the darkest times, there is always a glimmer of hope that can guide us towards brighter days.

ARTIST BIO
Maureen Uzoh (b. 1997) is a figurative visual artist from Nigeria. She has a bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Delta State University, Nigeria and a master’s degree in International Relations from the University of Portsmouth, UK.
Uzoh’s passion for art started at a young age, and has always pushed her to learn and grow as an artist. She did not have the opportunity to get a formal education in art, so she began practicing, watching videos online, and sourcing for informal materials. With many influences like Toyin Ojih Odutola, Lisa Brice, and Kehinde Wiley, she has built a career as an artist, and created works that boldly express her thoughts and realities.
Maureen is a part of the Title Deeds collective nurtured by Ken Nwadiogbu and curated by Azu Nwagbogu. She’s exhibited in a number of galleries including African Artist Foundation (‘Re-Mediation’, Lagos, Nigeria) and Nimbus gallery (‘iDesign Art’, Lagos, Nigeria). Her latest series, ‘The Red Room’, is a representation of her experiences while living and creating art in London.
